John Martin
is a native of the Hudson Valley. The formative years of his childhood had a
special significance for his love of nature.
He studied
and apprenticed with Philip Guston in the 70s at his studio in Woodstock, NY,
then continued his studies and apprenticeship at the Woodstock School of Art.
He has
taught as a resident artist in New York City, Ireland, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
His list of students is wide and varied, and his work hangs in many private
collections here and abroad.
He maintains
a classical tradition applying it to modern aesthetics. His updated use of the studio system employed by Renaissance artists like DaVinci is unique in
todays high tech world. His concept is solid and tested. i.e., drawing
is a fundamental, combined with essential laws that govern form and color
allowing full expression to emerge.
